What we can and cannot sign. A licensed CPA firm signs a SOC 2 report, while a Qualified Security Assessor signs PCI DSS reports. So Quantum Group Security brands prepare you for those examinations, but they do not issue them.

SOC 2 PCI: how the two frameworks overlap, and who signs what

SOC 2 PCI questions come from companies asked for both a SOC 2 report and PCI DSS compliance. So it helps to know who signs each one, and which controls can serve both.

  • Six specialist brands
  • CPA firms and QSAs sign the reports
  • One place to start
Soc 2 pci: separate the reports, share the controls and prepare once

Who signs in a SOC 2 PCI programme

The two frameworks have different signers. A licensed CPA firm issues a SOC 2 report. In contrast, PCI DSS validation runs through a Qualified Security Assessor or a self-assessment questionnaire, depending on your level.

Our brands prepare you for both. However, they do not issue either report, because that separation protects you.

Where SOC 2 PCI controls overlap

Many controls serve both. For example, access reviews, change management, logging and incident response appear in each framework.

  • Access control and reviews
  • Change management
  • Logging and monitoring
  • Vendor management
  • Incident response
  • Security awareness training

Where SOC 2 PCI requirements differ

PCI DSS is more specific. So it sets exact expectations for scans, passwords and card data storage, while SOC 2 tests the controls you design.

Scope differs too. Therefore a SOC 2 boundary rarely matches the cardholder data environment exactly.

Preparing once for both

Build one control set, then map it to each framework. Also collect evidence by control rather than by framework. As a result, the second examination costs far less effort than the first.

In addition, align calendars where possible, because shared evidence then serves both reviews. The criteria are in the AICPA Trust Services Criteria, and PCI documents are in the PCI SSC document library.

Which brand prepares which

Ridgeline Compliance and Clearpoint Advisory prepare SOC 2. Ashcroft Payment Security and Winslow Compliance Partners prepare PCI DSS. Quantum Group Security is a holding company, so you describe the problem once and we route you to the brand that handles it. You then contract with that single brand: one agreement, one fixed fee agreed before work starts and one point of contact.

SOC 2 PCI questions

Can one programme cover SOC 2 PCI requirements?

Largely yes, with one control set mapped to both frameworks.

Who signs a SOC 2 PCI pair of reports?

A CPA firm signs SOC 2, while a QSA or your own SAQ covers PCI DSS.

Does SOC 2 PCI overlap mean one replaces the other?

No. Each framework is validated separately.

Does Quantum Group Security sign either report?

No. Our brands prepare you, and independent firms sign.
